Confessions of the Paranormal
Video Installation, 2006.

DOT Arena 2, as part of the Sideshow Festival.

I was commissioned by DOT, a Leicester based art group to create a piece of artwork that related to the communities and buildings of Leicester. DOT created a cardboard installation of the city of Leicester and installed local artists work into each building.

With an ever-growing fascination for the paranormal and the frustration of not ever being a witness to it, I went in search to find people based in Leicester who had experienced a paranormal event. The interviews revealed that participants had experienced ghost sightings, sinister black shadows and UFO’s. The final anecdotes were projected in a small dark underground brick room.

One exert from the interviews was: ‘I found out later that the daughter of the vicar had been murdered in the house and that they were both buried, along with the murderer in the cemetery across the road’.

The ouija board installation was set inside a cardboard replica of the Guildhall, which is well-known for its frequent haunting and ghost sightings. Visitors were invited to use the home- made ouija board to contact spirits. Written instructions and warnings were added to the space and written translations were added to the wall by participants to show what the ouija board had spelt out.
