Artist Biography
Lucy Stevens (b. 1982) is a British multidisciplinary artist based in Leicester, UK. Her practice explores the complex and evolving relationship between humans and the natural world through painting, sculpture, installation, and sound. Working in colour-coded mixed media, she translates ecological research, museum collections, and conservation data into vibrant abstract visual languages.
Research and collaboration are central to Stevens’ work. She has partnered with scientists, ornithologists, museum curators, photographers and conservation organisations to investigate birdsong, specimen archives, migratory patterns and climate data. Through systematic mark-making and chromatic structures, she reinterprets scientific classification as a sensory and reflective experience.
Her solo exhibitions include Teeth (2025–2026), developed in collaboration with Creswell Crags, and Colour Coded Birds (2022–2023) at Leicester Museum & Art Gallery. In 2021 she produced Chasing Seasons in partnership with the British Trust for Ornithology and Leicestershire & Rutland Wildlife Trust.
Stevens holds a BA (Hons) and MA in Fine Art from Nottingham Trent University. She has exhibited widely across the UK and undertaken residencies in London, Scotland and Europe. Public art collections include Leicester Museum, The University of Leicester and Nottingham Trent University.
